Mondays: Meek Mill, Miguel, & Moments

Although today started off pretty rough due to a very tiring and long (but epic!) mosh pit-filled day yesterday, there’s nothing like some new music to brighten up my day.  Meek Mill (album art left) and Miguel’s (album art right) new albums dropped today and are available on Spotify.

I have yet to listen to each of the albums straight though, but here are some of my favorites thus far:

Dreams Worth More Than Money – Meek Mill
‘All Eyes On You’ ft. Chris Brown & Nicki Minaj – saw this performed live at the BET Awards!
‘R.I.C.O.’ ft. Drake (probably my favorite. shocker)
‘Pullin’ Up’ ft. The Weeknd
‘Bad For You’ ft. Nicki Minaj

Stream the album below:

WILDHEART – Miguel
‘coffee’
‘Hollywood Dreams’
‘face the sun’ ft. Lenny Kravitz

I can’t find the direct streaming of Wildheart, so you’ll just have to check it out for yourselves 🙂

Lots of listening to do!

BET Awards | SO many epic moments at the BET Awards last night!  Seeing all of the celebrities behind the scenes before they go out into the spotlight, watching the stage crew transform new sets in minutes, and just being so so close to the actual performances – truly so incredible and fascinating to me!  If you were watching the awards, I was in the left mosh pit and in the back left corner, so I doubt that you could see me at all.  Oh well!

My top performances of the night were definitely Diddy’s reunion of Bad Boy Entertainment.  It was 10 minutes of pure 90s insanity, and I loved every minute of it.  He brought out French Montana, Janelle Monae, and Chris Brown for the dance break, plus many others.  If you want to be entertained, I suggest you watch it here.  And no, I was not near Diddy when he fell on the stage.  I actually didn’t even know that happened until I saw it online.

From Kendrick Lamar opening the show to The Weeknd and Alicia Keys performing Abel’s ‘Earned It’ together, it was all so so good.  Janet Jackson entered the stage by the mosh pit I was in – Janet. Jackson.  The sister of Michael Jackson.  I die.  Chris Brown, during one of the performances he was a part of, was standing so close to me, I could have reached out and grabbed his leg!  Big Sean did an incredible job too.  Even the Smokey Robinson tribute was wonderful!  I truly just love being in those environments, and I wish phones were allowed because I would have live streamed it all for you guys.  I just really want to help put on an event like the BET Awards or the GRAMMYs.  That would be ultimate.

So on that note, I hope your weekend was filled with lots of amazing moments, as well!  Happy Monday!

NEW: The Game ft. Drake – ‘100’

Out of nowhere The Game dropped his song ‘100’ featuring Drake – the one they recently filmed the music video for in Compton.

Listen to The Game and Drake ‘keep it 8 more than 92’ below.

NEW: Janet Jackson – ‘No Sleeep’

She’s back!  This morning Janet Jackson kicked off her comeback with the release of a new and first single, ‘No Sleeep.’  Produced by longtime producers and friends Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis, the single features Janet singing longingly waiting for one-on-one time with her lover.

The track will be featured on her upcoming album, expected to drop this fall.

UPDATE EXCLUSIVE: Miguel – ‘Wildheart’

So I entered another Twitter contest (typical) earlier this week.  This one was to attend an exclusive event in LA for Miguel’s new ‘WILDHEART’ album set to release at the end of this month.  Although I didn’t win, I did get an email with a link to five unreleased tracks from the upcoming album.  And since I love sharing new music with my friends and followers, here ya go.  Link here.

Like I said, the link was taken down.  BUT, Miguel did release three tracks via YouTube that you can still enjoy below!

Serge’s Selections 6.1.15

Caitlyn Jenner stole my thunder of this originally scheduled post (ladies first!), but I’m going to post this anyway.  So this week’s Serge’s Selections don’t include tunes but delicious foods instead (and probably something my mom will finally enjoy reading).  This past weekend, I really indulged and strayed away from the usual Top Ramen (or oodles and noodles as I called them as a kid) lunch and/or dinner and feasted on some really yummy dishes.

Friday dinner.  While I don’t have a picture of my dinner (wasn’t planning on this post until yesterday #fail), I can tell ya a little bit about it.  A sushi dinner at a place called Rice Sake and Real Food in Manhattan Beach.  What was different about Rice compared to other sushi joints is that this place is gluten free and their sushi uses organic brown rice (so Californian).  No but really all of the sushi and sashimi was really good, paired with a glass of Pinot Grigio – solid.

Saturday lunch.  After a morning coffee from Two Guns Espresso on the Manhattan Beach Pier with Kylie, we ventured up to Marina del Rey to meet up with our good pal Jimmy to 1. hang at his pool but 2. (and most importantly) to eat at this quirky little restaurant near his place, 26 Beach Restaurant, that he recommended.  So good!  With a very extensive menu, I was really overwhelmed, I eventually went with the following:

cucumber drink     baja benedict      ricotta

Cool as a Kimba cocktail:  Vodka, cucumber, lime juice, with a rim of Mexican seasoning consisting of primarily chili peppers, lime, and salt

Baja Benedict:  Crispy tortillas, fried eggs, chorizo, cilantro-jalapeno cream sauce all served over brown rice and beans

Lemon Ricotta French Toast:  Honey lemon ricotta with fresh blueberries and raspberry Honey lemon ricotta with fresh blueberries and raspberry coulis

Sunday lunch.  Three letters – K.F.C.  And no, I am not talking about Kentucky Fried Chicken.  I am talking about Korean fried chicken and am asking myself WHY I’ve never eaten this before.  As a recommendation from a good friend of mine and off of a Korean fascination kick, Kylie and I ventured to Seoul Sausage Co.  This was truly some of the best fried chicken I’ve ever had.  Okay, enough typing.  Just feast your eyes on the pictures below, check out their website, and please visit a Korean restaurant ASAP to try out these foods!

poutine   KFC  sausage

Galbi poutine:  8 hr. braised short ribs served on top of twice fried french fries with cheese, kim-chi pickled onions and avocado lime crema

Da KFC:  Korean Fried Chicken with a sweet and spicy glaze, served with pickled daikon radishes and a kim-chi cheddar cornbread

Galbi sausage:  Handmade Korean BBQ beef sausage with garlic jalapeno aioli and kimchi relish served on a toasted soft roll

Randy's DonutsSunday snack.  In the city of Los Angeles where donut shops are very accessible and home to some of the most famous donut shops, Kylie and I couldn’t pass up a chance to try a new spot.  We decided to hit up the famous Randy’s Donuts located in Inglewood (pretty close to LAX).  NOM.  There were cars wrapped around the building in the drive-thru and a line of about 10 people in front of us – worth the wait.  Kylie got a cake donut with chocolate sprinkles (jimmies), and I devoured a coconut donut.  And coming in at only $1.90 for both, I think we’d go back.

Thanks for reading!

Serge’s Selections 5.4.15

Stream Ciara’s sixth album, ‘Jackie,’ on Spotify.  I haven’t listened to it yet, literally just logged on, but I know this is what I’ll be listening to today.  Ciara has definitely put out some bangers like ‘Ride,’ ‘Goodies,’ ‘Like a Boy,’ etc., so I have pretty high hopes for this album, which is named after her mother – how appropriate with Mother’s Day being right around the corner. 🙂  Give it a listen, and let me know what you think.  Happy Monday, readers!

Serge’s Selections 4.28.15

This week’s playlist, in no particular order, features 10 songs that I’ve been listening to on repeat the past couple days.  There’s a little Nick Jonas (strange, I know), French Montana, Rihanna, and others.  Surprisingly Drake isn’t on here.  Give it a listen!  Any songs you like?  Don’t like?  Never heard before?  Would love to know!

Serge’s Selections 4.20.15

Off of The Weeknd’s back-to-back performances at Coachella and with it being 4.20 (on the West Coast still at least), I couldn’t think of a more appropriate playlist to put together for you guys.  Abel Tesfaye’s music isn’t like your typical R&B.  It’s dark but sexy, features slow tempos with lyrics about sex, drugs, and partying, and is typically sung in quite the falsetto.  I’m obsessed.

If you haven’t listened to or even heard of The Weeknd, I highly suggest you check him out.  And no I’m not just saying this because he is Drake’s protégé – he is truly talented.  And having seen him perform multiple times, his talent on the stage is equally brilliant and breathtaking.  Check out some of my faves below.

NEW:  Drake – My Side (bonus track)

As if the kiss seen around the world wasn’t enough of a surprise (Madonna kissed Drake during his Coachella set for those who don’t know – yes, I’m jealous if you’re wondering), a bonus track from If You’re Reading This It’s Too Late was just released online.  Check it below.  Thank you, Drake, for the constant tunes.
