VIDEO: Kendrick Lamar – “ELEMENT.”

King Kendrick is back with another round of powerful visuals for “ELEMENT.” off of his latest album DAMN.

Kendrick has been taking music videos to the next level and watching them makes me like the respective song that much more.  Well done.

Watch below, and see for yourself.

Concert Review: BET Experience – Night 3

It has been a busy last few days filled with concerts, and I am not mad about it for one second.

Last night I attended the third night of the concert series that make up the BET Experience.  The lineup below –

  • Lil Yachty
  • Young Thug
  • Migos
  • Rae Sremmurd
  • Gucci Mane
  • ScHoolboy Q
  • A$AP Rocky

We missed Lil Yachty but got there just in time for Thugger.  Staples Center wasn’t completely full yet so the crowd wasn’t as lit as I expected for Young Thug, but he played a handful of his old and new tracks, keeping the audience satisfied.

Time for Migos.  I just saw them last Friday as one of the openers for Future, and once again they did not disappoint.  I truly think they are the top hip-hop group in the country right now – from the success of their Culture album to being featured on numerous tracks and making appearances across the board – they’re everywhere.  Talk about living your best life.

Can we also talk about how TakeOff needs to take off his pink windbreaker situation and give it to me?  And I don’t even wear pink, but it’s everything.  Photo cred: Staples Center Twitter

Next up was Rae Sremmurd.  Now these two guys really had the crowd lit.  From “No Flex Zone” to “Black Beatles” to “Swang” to “No Type” and more, Swae Lee and and Slim Jimmy elevated the energy inside the Staples Center.

Now I was pretty excited to see the next rapper – Gucci Mane.  Last night was the second time I’ve seen him live – the first was at Rolling Loud in May.  But to see him at Staples Center in a more controlled environment compared to a chaotic outdoor music festival was much more preferred. He performed “Both,” “Lemonade” (one of my favorites), and brought out Migos to perform “Slippery” in addition to a handful of other songs.

The last two acts were ScHoolboy Q and A$AP Rocky.  Now I thought A$AP would be the headliner, but the two rappers actually started on stage together.  I was all the way down for that.

TDE x A$AP… yes, please.

Wiz Khalifa and Snoop Dogg took this approach Thursday night.  They alternated stage time and performed together.  This kept the energy going and held your attention as a fan.  V smart.

Anyways, ScHoolboy performed “Man of the Year,” “Collard Greens,” “THat Part,” and “Studio” to name a few.  A$AP Rocky aka BAE$AP Rocky performed “Electric Body” (with ScHoolboy), “Shabba,” “Lord Pretty Flacko Jodye 2,” and more.

But nothing, and I mean nothing, could have prepared me or the rest of Staples Center for the final song.  ScHoolboy came back out with truly only a few minutes to spare until their ending time of 11:30PM.  He took to the mic saying this next song was to those from Compton, Carson, Gardena, etc (Los Angeles cities for those yinzers reading this), and “Humble” started playing.

Everyone knew what this meant…

K I N G  K E N D R I CK

For the three minutes Kendrick was on stage, the energy was at PEAK levels.  I almost told my friend who was there with me that we should leave a little early to get ahead of the crowd, but I’m so glad we stayed until the end.  The entire A$AP Mob and TDE family rushed the stage and everyone was living their best life.

You can watch snippets from the concert below!

Okay, time to go get some sun and then get ready for the 2 Chainz concert tonight!

Drake On Drake On Drake

Drake was feeling v generous yesterday.  Not only did we get the 46th episode of OVO Sound Radio, but he also gave us three new tracks.  Well, technically two since we heard “Signs” earlier this week but it’s officially on Apple Music.  And I know I already posted “Signs” a few days ago, but I wanted you to have all the new tracks in one place 🙂

Peep below!

“Signs” – Drake

I love all three minutes and 55 seconds of this song, and it could have either been on Views and/or More Life.

Listening to it puts me in a very chill mood.  His voice is so smooth and then he breaks out into the deep Drake voice and you just die.

“You can’t drink all day if you don’t start in the morning.”  What’s that?  Facts.

Listen on Apple Music here.

“Freak in You” – PARTYNEXTDOOR ft. Drake

Now this was a surprise.  I’ve already listed to PND’s most recent EP, Colours 2, which is where “Freak in You” is from so when I was listening to OVO Sound Radio and heard Drake on the track I was like… waiiiit a second.  Pleasantly surprised for sure.

Vibes on vibes with this remix.

Two of my favorite lyrics from the song are:

  • “I’m just more ready than petty nowadays.”
  • “Young and in control, even when they stoop low.”

Listen below –

“No Complaints” – Metro Boomin ft. Offset & Drake

Looks like this will be the first single from Metro Boomin’s upcoming project, Boominati, which he’s been teasing on his Twitter.

Out of these three songs, “No Complaints” is definitely the most lit, and I actually could hear it on If You’re Reading This It’s Too Late and/or What A Time To Be Alive.  Banger.

I would love to see this performed live, and I can only picture the excitement of Drake on stage, jumping around with Offset and Metro Boomin.

Listen here.

Now I must go get ready for the final night of the BET Experience.  Tonight’s concert lineup is:  A$AP Rocky, ScHoolboy Q, Rae Sremmurd, Gucci Mane, Migos, Young Thug, and Lil Yachty.

L I V I N G.

Talk soon!

Music: Drake – “Signs”

Do you know how excited I was typing in the above title?  Probably not.

“Signs,” inspired by Louis Vuitton’s upcoming collection and produced by 40, is the first piece of music Drake’s released since More Life.  I also just realized I haven’t published my review of that album… slacking.

He premiered the track during the Louis Vuitton fashion show during Paris Fashion Week.

I just listened… his voice, you guys!  And 40 is just a producing genius!  I am loving the vibe of “Signs” – for real. I know I like just about every one of Drake’s songs, but this is what I needed.  It’s also refreshing to hear this sound among the mumble rap we’ve been given from other artists recently.  Definitely not hating on that type of music but just saying.

Okay, listen below.  Start around the 4:40 mark, and let that ish play.

Concert Review: Future – Nobody Safe Tour

#NobodySafeTour should have been called the #EverybodyLitTour.  On Friday, June 16, Future stopped in Los Angeles to take the stage at The Forum.  Opening guests included Zoey Dollaz, Tory Lanez, A$AP Ferg, and Migos.

Before we jump into the night, we need to discuss the fact that I didn’t even know I was going until the morning of!  With positive vibes and two of the best concert plugs I know, I received a call at 8:30AM that Friday morning.  My friend on the other line said, “Get ready to go see Future tonight.”  Best wake-up call E V E R.  So clearly that’s all I was thinking about for the rest of the day.

Cut to the evening.

The three of us arrived at The Forum around 8PM and went to will call to pick up our tickets.  We still didn’t know where we were sitting but were pumped regardless because we were seeing Future and Migos.  Duh.

*picks up tickets at will call*

We weren’t ready for this.

7TH ROW FLOOR SEATS

Are you kidding me?  Happy freaking Friday.  After a few “OMG” minutes, we made our way into The Forum to get a much needed beer and to find our seats.

Walking down to the floor was surreal.  Although I’ve been on the ground level at The Forum for Kanye’s Saint Pablo Tour and Drake x Future’s Summer Sixteen Tour, it’s just as exciting each time, and I will be forever grateful and appreciative of these experiences.

So we missed Zoey Dollaz, Tory Lanez, and A$AP Ferg.  Do it look like we stressin’?  Nah.  We were really there for Migos and Future.

The lights dimmed and Migos took the stage.  These three guys are really living their best life.  They’re the most popular rappers / rap group right now.  Before you come at me and try to hit me with a “what about Kendrick Lamar?” question, pause for one second.  He is the best rapper but as far as popularity right now and being featured on other artist’s songs and performances… Migos.

As if their set wasn’t lit enough, they brought out 21 Savage.  Talk about #ForTheCulture.

That was the first time I’d seen them live, and I’d definitely go see them again.  Oh wait.  I am.  June 24 as part of the BET Experience 🙂

Time for Future.

Future’s set started with computer malfunction visuals on a giant screen, followed by him appearing and kicking off his set with “Draco.”  I’ve seen Future a handful of times now, and each time he gets better.  He’s definitely not at the same star level as The Weeknd or Drake yet, but his energy and passion for performing is up there.

With a great mix of old and new songs, Future did not disappoint.  He brought out Ty Dolla $ign, A$AP Ferg, A$AP Rocky, and DJ Esco brought out ScHoolboy Q.

But nothing and I mean nothing could have prepared me for the last surprise guest.  He goes by the name of…

D R I Z Z Y  D R A K E

It’s always difficult for me to put into words of what and how I feel during a Drake performance.  It’s just the best.  His songs mixed with his energy and stage presence just make for the ultimate time, and I am truly the happiest.  Like I start rapping along and dancing then find myself pausing and just thinking, “I am watching m favorite artist of all time live right now.”  #FangirlThoughts

Drake performed “Jumpman,” “Portland” (he brought out Quavo), “Fake Love,” and “Gyalchester” for the first time in LA.

Only performing four songs made the overall concert that much better.  And while I’m  a huge Future fan, the crowd’s energy during Drake’s mini set may have been a little greater than during Future’s.

In the end, this was by far the best Future concert I’ve been to and probably one of the top five concerts I’ve attended overall.  I can’t thank my two friends enough for hooking it up with the tickets.  These are experiences that mean the absolute most to me.

Also important to note that Future wore a lot of black and yellow outfits – a #californyinz moment.

Until the next concert…

SNIPPET: Jay Z – “Adnis”

Yooooo.  I was in the middle of writing my #NobodySafeTour recap and saw on Twitter that a new Jay Z song is in the works.

Remember that Sprint x Tidal teaser that aired during the NBA Finals?  Well a new clip has surfaced, and the background song appears to be new Jay Z.  Happy Father’s Day to you, sir!

I definitely do not have Tidal, but you can click here to watch the 30-second spot.

Now back to this Future concert post…

VIDEO: DJ Khaled ft. Rihanna & Bryson Tiller – “Wild Thoughts”

Earlier today (like 6AM EST early), Khaled gave us another one *Khaled voice* from his upcoming album, Grateful.  Not only did he release the song but the visuals as well.

The track, titled “Wild Thoughts,” features my girl crush, Rihanna, and one of my favorite new artists, Bryson Tiller.  Co-written by PartyNextDoor, the song samples Carlos Santana’s hit “Maria, Maria.”  Fire.

Out of the recent songs Khaled has given us, this is one of the better ones in my opinion.  It’s definitely a good track to kick off your weekend.

Disclaimer:  Rihanna is S E R V I N G the most in this video.  See for yourself below.

Music: Calvin Harris ft. Pharrell, Katy Perry, & Big Sean – “Feels”

More new music!  Living.

As promised earlier this week, Calvin Harris posted to his social media channels that he’d be releasing another track from his upcoming album Funk Wav Bounces Vol. 1.  PS – I’m really hoping for a Vol. 2, and Vol. 1 hasn’t even dropped yet.  Moving on.

This song is complete summer island vibes.  TBH, each song Calvin Harris has given us from this upcoming album has had summer vibes.  Low-key I’m more excited for this project than DJ Khaled’s which has E V E R Y one on it.

Back to “Feels.”  Let me keep this short and sweet.

Pharrell starting this song… amazing!  Definitely the right choice.  Then we move on to Katy Perry’s vocals.  She keeps the energy going with her spunk.  But moving on to my favorite verse of the song… Big Sean’s.

“Godamn I know you love to make an entrance
Do you like getting paid or getting paid attention
You mixed the wrong guys with the right intentions
In the same bed, but it still feel long distance
She’s looking for a little more consistency
But when you stop looking you gon’ find what’s meant to be
And honestly I’m way too done with the hoes
I cut off all my exes for your x and o’s
I feel my old flings, was just preparing me”

*Lyric credit: Genius

That bolded and italicized lyric is the key to life!  Big Sean is hitting me with the actual feels in this song which you can (and should!) listen to here.

Well done, Calvin Harris.  Looking forward to Funk Wav Bounces Vol. 1.

VIDEO: The Weeknd – “Secrets”

While you were all sleeping, I was wide awake high off of a Pittsburgh Penguins STANLEY CUP win and scrolling through Twitter.  Well, I stumbled across a Tweet from The Weeknd who announced his most recent music video for “Secrets.”

I LOVE THIS SONG.

It’s different, mesmerizing, and sort of reminded me of something from American Horror Story.  Okay, just take a look for yourself.  Watch below!
