Serge’s Selections 12.21.15

Hey-ooo!  Happy week of Christmas!  Can’t believe it’s on Friday.  I’m back in Pittsburgh for the holidays. 🙂

Below are some new album selections of mine you should definitely listen to.

CHRIS BROWN – Royalty

I have truly been waiting for this album for a long time.  Bummed I missed out on Chris Brown’s show at the Hollywood Palladium on Friday night, but from the Instagram videos I saw, it looked bangin’, and the tracks he performed from Royalty, no doubt, make this one of his better pieces of work.  I truly believe C. Breezy did a 180 with this album and what, or should I say who is most important in his life.  That important person being his daughter Royalty, who the album is named after.

PUSHA T – Darkest Before Dawn:  The Prelude

The new G.O.O.D. Music president gives us a ten-track album that is packed with features and solid rhymes.  I had the chance of listening to parts of the album thanks to Power 106 and their always exclusive world premieres and first listens.  This album serves as the prelude to King Push’s third album, King Push, which is scheduled to drop in April of next year.

Hope you’re all having a great Monday, yinz!

Anotha one…

Yes!  I always look forward to DJ Earworm’s mashup of all the top songs of each year – he calls it ‘The United State of Pop.’  And his 2015 mix is finally here.

This year is a bit different though.  Normally he takes the top 25 songs, but this year he upped it to 50 and changed the name to ’50 Shades of Pop.’  With a diverse range of tunes and sounds that became top hits this year, you can expect to hear an eclectic mashup.  He even squeezed in Adele, since her music came out fairly late but obviously blew up the charts.

Listen and enjoy below!

NEW: Coldplay ft. Beyonce – ‘Hymn for the Weekend’

Listen, listen, listen here!

Queen B is indeed featured on this track, which will be on Coldplay’s upcoming (and maybe final) album, A Head of Full Dreams, to be released on Friday.

The original lyrics of the song actually were ‘drinks on me, drinks on me,’ but they decided they couldn’t get away with that phrase.  So instead, they enlisted Mrs. Carter to switch it up a bit by saying ‘drink from me, drink from me,’ along with other heavenly sayings.

Black Friday

I didn’t go shopping today, but that’s okay because J.Cole and Kendrick Lamar gave me the best gifts of all – two remixes to one another’s songs.

First, J.Cole rapped over Kendrick’s “Alright” and then K.Dot blessed us with some bars over J.Cole’s “Tale of 2 Citiez.”

Again, I’m not home right now so the SoundCloud embedding is sort of annoying on a phone, so you’ll just have to click below to listen. 🙂

Hope you enjoy as much as I did!

November 18th…

Shout out to one of my favorite Drake songs, ‘November 18,’ off one of my favorite (and what I think is one of his best) bodies of work he put out back in 2009 titled So Far Gone.

Seriously, it’s good stuff.  Hope yinz are having a great week!

Thank Goodness for The Weeknd!

Friday, August 28 is finally here – The Weeknd’s release date for Beauty Behind The Madness (BBTM).  You can purchase it (I will be to support) or listen to it on Spotify!  Seriously, thank God for that app.  It’s the best $9.99 I spend each month.

Beauty Behind The Madness here!

And I also just found a Weeknd Essentials playlist.  Holy smokes.  If you are a fan of Abel Tesfaye, you should ‘follow’ this playlist.  It’s a compilation of his old and newer songs, including tracks from BBTM.

Happy Friday, yinz!

NEW: Justin Bieber – ‘What Do You Mean?’

I don’t know about you, but I’m pretty amped about this new single from the Biebs.  As a follower of the Canadian native on Instagram (don’t judge), I’ve even more so anticipated this track due to the star-studded social media campaign behind it.  Since the announcement of thre track on July 29 on Ryan Seacrest’s syndicated radio show, every day Justin has had a fellow celebrity promote the song on Instagram.  Celebrities ranged from Ed Sheeran to Tony Hawk to Kendal Jenner (yes, she’s a celebrity – get over it) to Ben Stiller and Shaquille O’Neal to name a few.

Some of you may be shaming me for supporting him, but he’s quite talented and his talent is what originally brought him into the spotlight, so for that, he has my support.  Don’t act like you were all perfect growing up. 🙂

So give it a listen and see for yourself if all the promotion was worth the hype!

‘What Do You Mean?’

And if you’re interested in a more in-depth explanation of his social media campaign for this song, you can read a great article on Billboard’s website.

Leak! Listen to The Weeknd’s #BBTM Here!

Like I’ve said before, I normally don’t like listening to new albums until the release date, but this one I just can’t wait until Friday for.  Thanks to my roommate Kylie and RapFav.com, here is a link where you can stream The Weeknd’s Beauty Behind the Madness album.  Listen while you can!  You never know – these things tend to get taken down.  What tracks are your favorite?  Would love to know.

Enjoy, yinz!
