NEW… sort of: Usher ft. Master P, Travi$ Scott, 2 Chainz, A$AP Ferg, Gucci Mane – ‘No Limit (G-Mix)’

As I was driving to work this morning, Power 106 played a remix that I’m mad at myself I’m just hearing for the first time.  Usher was in for the Cruz Show so they had a bunch of his songs in rotation… obviously.

Well, this one remix really had my morning commute lit.

I already love Usher’s track ‘No Limit’ featuring Young Thug, but this G-Mix he whipped together…

The remix features Travi$ Scott, Gucci Mane, A$AP Ferg, Master P, and 2 Chainz.  It’s like a trap lovers paradise.

So please listen below, and you can thank me later.

This actually dropped back in August, sooooo clearly I’ve been sleeping.

Oh well!

NEW: The Weeknd ft. Daft Punk – ‘Starboy’

Since tomorrow is the first official day of fall, it’s only right the King of the Fall releases brand new music from his upcoming album STARBOY.

The song, also titled ‘Starboy,’ features Daft Punk.  Now we saw some social media hints a while back about a possible collab, so it looks like the rumors were true!

The song is currently only on Apple Music.. again, get the dang streaming service, but I’m sure it will be made available via other online sites soon.  Listen here!

I’ll post an alternate way to listen once it’s released.  Stay tuned!

And STARBOY is expected to drop on November 25.  Yeeeeee.

Saras in the Trap Sing McKnight

But really, Birds in the Trap Sing McKnight is finally here, and I couldn’t be more excited.

CrUIPMVVYAELAFa.jpg-large

I’m currently tuned in to Beats1 Radio… more specifically .wav Radio, listening to the live stream of Travi$ Scott’s new album.  He’s also going through each song with his boy the OG Chase B, and this is what really gets me excited for new music.  Yes, I love the beats and lyrics and features, but when the actual artist explains what each song means to them, how it came together, etc, that makes me appreciate the project even more.

CrW_2ijVUAAJtBV.jpg-large

Like right now Travi$ is explaining how he got Kendrick on a track.  That’s so dope.  I’ll be updating this post throughout the day as I continue to listen and as more random thoughts come to mind so definitely keep checking back on this one.

UPDATE 10:12AM:  Did yinz hear that Bryson Tiller track?  I definitely wasn’t expecting that collaboration.  Holy smokes.  Glad it happened.  Currently playing is ‘Guidance,’ and it has a different Travi$ vibe to it, almost like a little Drake-island vibe.  I dig it.

UPDATE 10:14AM:  Wowwww, ending with ‘Wonderful.’  That is truly wonderful.  It’s not that I forget about this song, but I don’t always play it, but I love it… probably doesn’t make sense to you but to me it does.  And with the addition of The Weeknd’s vocals… magic.  Really glad the album ends on this note.

UPDATE 10:22AM:  BITTSM is finally available on Apple Music.  Praise the streaming gawds.

UPDATE 10:42AM:

REMAKE: Black Eyed Peas – “#WHERESTHELOVE”

I really really love this.  Well, to be honest, I like the tempo and upbeat vibes to the 2003 original better but the messaging and all those involved in this remake are incredible.

I got in my car this morning to play it and started watching the video.  I wasn’t driving obviously.  But I started watching the video and teared up.  Just seeing ALL of the artists who came together to be a part of this and spread the message and ask the question, “where is the love?” – was truly amazing.  I couldn’t get through the whole thing because I didn’t want my mascara to start running.  #GIRLPROBS

I mean, who wasn’t part of this project?  It’s amazing – see below.  Also, The Black Eyed Peas, Interscope Records, and iTunes plan to donate all U.S. proceeds of the song to i.am.angel Foundation, will.i.am’s nonprofit focused on providing “education, inspiration and opportunity.”

CrPPhvtVIAAYk7w

You can read all of the lyrics here, and definitely watch the video here.  Well, it’s currently streaming exclusively on Apple Music for the first 24 hours but after that you’ll be able to watch elsewhere.  Again, I don’t know why everyone just doesn’t sign up for Apple Music.  Haven’t you noticed most of these major artists are dropping projects via that streaming service first?

Any who… I hope the video moves you as much as it did me  <3.

Review: Jaxon – ‘WILDWEST’

New artist + new series alert!  I am pretty excited to have my first

watch out WEDNESDAY

post feature none other than the 21-year-old New Zealand artist, Jaxon.  In particular, this post will highlight his debut EP, WILDWEST which dropped last Friday, August 5.

Jaxon is a rock-leaning, soul, R&B singer, who was raised in Texas, with influences ranging from artists like Drake, Lenny Kravitz, Jimi Hendrix, James Brown, Guns N’ Roses, Miguel, and Ben Harper.  They have helped him personally grow as an artist and by listening to WILDWEST, you will definitely hear the above influences in his sound, specifically Drake, Lenny Kravitz, and Miguel.  Very, very dope AND extremely unique.  Major key.

Okay, time for the real deal.  I recommend you listen to the EP below and read my review of each track as you listen and would love to know what you think in the comments section at the bottom of this post.  Press play and hope you enjoy it as much as I did!

WILDWEST REVIEW

‘High Noon’ | This song just puts me in a good mood and when the chorus hits, all I want to do is rock out (Lenny Kravitz, check), and I’m typically not one to ‘rock out.’  This track will make you want to take a road trip up PCH to Malibu.  And honestly, any song about California I’m probably going to like.  I mean, I did move here from the East Coast, right?  His vocals are powerful at the end too – I dig it!

‘Smith & Wesson’ | Love the opening sound of this track.  I feel like now I should be in Malibu on the beach.  Summer vibes all the way.

‘Wild West’ | Now we’re at the track which shares the name of the EP.  Love the guitar on this one, and Jaxon’s vocals on this actually remind me of Miguel (check).  I could see it being on Miguel’s last album Wildheart.  Woah.  WILDWEST… Wildheart.  Amazing.

‘Red Velvet’ | Again, another track I want to rock out to.  PROPS to Jaxon for getting me to rock out.  Rare ting.  Love the overall beat and cadence.  His voice is as smooth as red velvet on this track.  And now I sort of want a piece of red velvet cake.  Moving on…

‘Hennessy ft. DYSN’ The opening of this track is unexpected from the rest of the songs, and I love it.  Okay, can we get a Bieber and Jaxon duet?  Serious.  I think that would be dope.  This is definitely an end-of-the-night song, and if you know me, you know I love music for ALL types of the day and night, so thank you, Jaxon, for giving me a new song to add to my chill vibes playlist :).

‘Black Gold’ | I immediately was drawn to this track just from the name of it.  Pittsburgh colors, ya dig!  Love when the song picks up at about 1:15.  This was a strong ending to the EP – well done.

Overall emotion… Drake feel (check).

Listening to the six tracks truly takes you on a journey from start to finish.  I think people will gravitate toward this project because it’s relatable – moving to a new city, dealing with modern day problems, and just going with and handling the flow of life.  And why will you gravitate toward Jaxon?  As an artist, his voice is melodic AF, he has vocals AND can play the guitar, and from what I hear, he’s a complete gem :).

Really looking forward to getting more music from Jaxon and seeing him grow as an artist.

Thanks for reading my first watch out WEDNESDAY, yinz!

Can it be Friday yet?

UPDATE 8/4; 5:37PM PST:  And the dude is back.  #FrankDoesScience

I suggest you tune into my Snap because not only have I been following this all week, but when this ish drops… just saying.

And while we wait for Boys Don’t Cry, you can listen to a playlist of all the instrumentals that were featured in the live stream thus far.

Screen Shot 2016-08-04 at 5.23.47 PM

UPDATE:  Apple Music Tweeted just a bit ago a link to the live stream that was originally on Frank’s album site.  But now when you click the link, it takes you to the stream on Apple Music.

I’m about to share a major key with  yinz… GET APPLE MUSIC.  Too many (epic) artists are signing deals with the streaming platform, and you don’t want to be the lone listener trying to find the song, album, mixtape, etc. from some janky site.

[original post continued here] …and not because of the weekend.  And if anyone should be checking the time, it should 100% be Frank.  Hello, sir.  Where are you?

So, it’s been a minute since I’ve posted, and I know I said I was starting a new weekly series, but chill fam, life happens, and I get caught up.

Anyways and more importantly, we not only have Travi$ Scott dropping his new album this Friday but now reports are saying Mr. Frank I’veBeenHidingForFourYears Ocean will also be dropping his album.

Since this morning, I’ve had Frank’s Boys Don’t Cry site up – still up now – because at midnight on the West Coast he launched this stream.  I’m basically trolling myself because I hear the live stream is really just a video loop.  But in the small chance Frank pops out and live streams his album, I need to be the first to know and share the info with yinz.

Screen Shot 2016-08-01 at 3.03.19 PM

So Sara May Cry if he doesn’t actually drop this album on Friday, and if he doesn’t, at least I have Birds in the Trap Sing McKnight to fall back on.  Not going to lie though, I’m probably a little more excited for Travy’s album anyway.

Definitely stay tuned to this post for more updates.

UDPATE: New Music from Drake Tomorrow…

UPDATE:

Listen to ‘No Shopping’ below!  Catch that lyric back to Joe Budden…

Remember when French Montana and Drake were seen together recording a new song?  Well that song, ‘No Shopping,’ drops tomorrow.

Produced by 40 and Murda Beatz, the single will appear on French’s upcoming album MC4, which is expected to drop on August 19.

The video has already been shot for the song, but it’s not confirmed if that will be dropping with the audio.  Regardless, I’m looking forward to this collab.

NEW: KH of Mo’$crill – ‘Potion’

Hey yinz!  Made it back from our annual 4th of July trip alive and well.  Not extremely well but  alive enough to make it to work on time and get through the day.  I’ll be crafting a post for Miss Mandy but am wanting to wait for the official video to be made first :).

What helped me get through the day though?

Coffee, a lot of work, a chocolate chip cookie, my new Travi$ Scott dad hat that arrived in the mail, and most importantly music.  Not just any music but new music from my fellow Pittsburgh native, KH.

Produced by Justin Cicco and Sledgren, KH’s newest song ‘Potion’ gives off the right amount of vibes for this day of recovery.  The chill yet sexy sound is the perfect mix.  Listen below!

I’m also excited to announce that I’ll be starting a new series on on californyinz where I’ll be highlighting new artists or artists that I think you should be listening to on WATCH OUT WEDNESDAY (WOW).  *watch out lil bih* I’m super pumped about this because I always feel like I’m listening to new artists or being recommended artists, and I need to spread the word about these epic and talented people.  While I may highlight new songs, I want to stick to the people who create those songs.

Now I can’t promise it will be every Wednesday, but I will definitely be starting next week on July 13 with the artist featured in this post, KH.  What better artist to start off with than someone who is also from Pittsburgh?  Not to mention, we did a dope interview, and he’s so down to earth, and I can’t wait for you to e-meet him.

So listen to the track *DRUMMA BOY VOICE* and let me know what you think!

Hope yinz had a great 4th!

REMIX: Drake – ‘One Dance (Culture Clash Dub)’

“Papi never run away” – loving that lyric!

Okay, I am so thankful for this version of Drake’s hit ‘One Dance’!  To be honest, I was getting a little sick of the original, mostly because it was overplayed on the radio.

But this!!!  I am so digging this island vibe and dancehall flow.

Listen below!  And stay tuned for the official music video because over the past few days, the 6 God was spotted in South Africa filming for it.

He’s a Classic Man…

So, last night was pretty epic for a Tuesday night.  I attended an event hosted by Vevo (major props and many thanks for the invite!) that highlighted their breakout artist of the year.  This year’s being Jidenna.  Now, I must admit that I don’t listen to Jidenna on the reg and really am only familiar with his ‘Classic Man’ song.  However, after seeing him live and hearing the new music he has lined up… holy. smokes.

The man is a natural entertainer.  From his facial expressions to his dance moves to his way of working the crowd, Jidenna has gained a new fan from me.  It also helped that he was performing literally right in front of me.  So cool.

At the NeueHouse venue in Hollywood, Syd and I checked in and were greeted with complimentary champagne.  There was an open bar with cocktails named after Jidenna songs and trends – very tasty BTW.  And as if the drinks weren’t enough of a treat, cue the mac and cheese bar and french fry cups.  I mean.  My dream.  But yes, thank you again to Vevo for being the host with the most!

Now back to the real star.  Check out my Snapchat story (ergense) from last night to get a better feel of what went down with Vevo’s breakout artist of the year!
