‘Thought It Was a Drought’ at the Future Concert

Happy Wednesday!  Hope yinz are having a great week.

Mine has been pretty chill except for last Friday, which was all the way turned up.  As I mentioned in Thursday’s post, I was heading to Future’s Purple Reign Tour at the Hollywood Palladium.  Let me detail the day’s events for you all.

Parker and Sydney met at Agatay around 1ish.  We enjoyed some beverages, called the Uber, and an hour and fifteen minutes later, we arrived at Future’s pop-up shop on Fairfax.  Before we went inside the store, we decided to get some food at this Italian spot right next door called Jon and Vinny’s.  Wish I could tell you how the food was but we didn’t end up eating there.  We never even placed our order.  Once we sat down, I hopped onto Snapchat to see if Future had posted anything.  Well, he did, and I’m glad I checked.  His Snap read ‘Fairfax 410.’  Well guess where we were… Fairfax 412. (412 yinz yasss).

Eating at this point was not an option.  Getting in line for his store was.  We were in the front of the line with a couple of big security dudes in suits who advised us that once we got in the store, we were not to take any pictures or videos.  Fair enough.  We entered the store, and the three of us all purchased some Freebandz swag.  Next thing I know, Sydney tells me to look up and freaking Future is there, all 6+ feet of him.  He was wearing a pair of light denim jeans and a white hoodie.  He was super chill – on his phone with two of his kids running around him.  Talk about a meet and greet but sans meeting.  Or really greeting.  But you get it.

We then took an Uber to the Palladium where Parker got in line, which was already wrapped around the building at 5:45pm.  Syd and I got some food, grabbed an order to-go for Parker and patiently waited until the doors opened.  We were really close to the front – about four rows back.  The crowd wasn’t too bad.  LA’s own DJ Dre Sinatra had everyone hype with club bangers.  There were two opening acts before Ty Dolla $ign.  Not gonna lie, I don’t know their names.  Moving on.  Ty came out and crushed it.  I really really love seeing him perform.  He’s also super talented.  The man can rap and sing.  He loves the fans too.  He actually stage dove into the crowd and lost a shoe!  He proceeded to take off his other shoe and threw it towards us.  He brought out Juicy J and Joe Moses.  Too dope.  Watch some of his set below!

Towards the end of his set, he made the mistake of telling the crowd to move as close to the stage as possible.  Seriously, you could not move.  I don’t do well in tight spaces where people are all up in my business to begin with, but this was just ridiculous.  We were shifting as one unit, the chick’s hair in front of me was in my face/mouth area, my right arm was smooshed up against this one mass of a man.  So Sydney and I stayed in our spots for as long as we could during Future’s set, but then we couldn’t take it any longer.  We moved to the back, got some water (I really ‘Thought It Was a Drought’) and were able to still see and dance.  We left Parker up in the front and re-connected with him at the end.

Okay now about Future’s performance!  It. Was. Lit.  He opened with ‘Thought It Was a Drought’ and did most of his mainstream songs mixed with some early Future.  Girls and guys of all ages and races were rapping along with him.  I’m even talking about a 12-year-old boy who was there with his dad.  Dad, you were the real MVP.  From the lights to the overall sound, the show captivated the audience and Future really made you feel part of his set.  You can just tell he vibes hard with his fans and appreciates them.  Future took a little break and out came DJ Esco who kept everyone going with some crowd favorites.  Future came back on and ended his set with one of my personal favorites, ‘March Madness.’  He performed for about an hour and a half in total.

The entire Purple Reign Tour was worth every penny.  Not sure how he did it, but as soon as the LA show was over, Future hopped onto his tour bus to head back to Santa Ana for ANOTHER show.  He performed there the night before and in Tempe, AZ even earlier that Thursday evening.  Four shows in two days.  That’s impressive.  And I imagine his energy level was hype each show.  That just proves his passion for music, touring, and the fans.

Next concert… Rihanna and Travi$ Scott, but that’s not until May.  That’s all for today!

I See In My Future…

…an epic time tomorrow.  We are one day away from the Future concert tomorrow night at the Hollywood Palladium!  Parker, Sydney, and I are all taking half days at work (well, Syd is taking a full day) in preparation for the Purple Reign Tour.  Shout out to bro bro for the ticket.Me_Parker_Syd

The plan is to meet at Agatay shortly after we get home from work, Uber to the Hollywood area, maybe hit up the Future pop-up shop, and chill until the doors open.  I have a feeling the line will be pretty long and people will start to line up early.  I cannot miss my chance to be front row for this.  Serious.  And I’m pumped that Syd will be sitting (actually standing) with us this time.  She came to The Weeknd’s tour with us in December but was all the way across the venue!  That’s commitment.

Ty Dolla $ign is also opening, and he supposedly has a new mixtape he may drop in the very near future.  Tomorrow is about to be LITTY, and I can’t wait to be part of it.

I’m sort of a late bloomer Future listener, so let’s #tbt this post to the first Future song that got me hooked.  However, this was back in 2011, so I guess you can say I have been listening to him for quite some time now.

And happy St. Patrick’s Day!

Mumford & Sons Recruit Kanye for New Project

Okay, this is really dope and a great project.  Kanye fans can have the chance to collaborate with him as well as other artists on the upcoming 12-track project called Metamorphoses.  The album is being led by Mumford & Sons’ Ben Lovett and Global Citizen co-founder/CEO Hugh Evans.

What’s the purpose of this album?  This project aims to raise awareness surrounding extreme poverty and inequality around the world and is set to drop this fall.

Artists such as Ellie Goulding, Kanye (obvi), and The National will be joining forces.  The coolest part is fans can submit lyrics, poetry, stories, reflections, and thoughts on the above topics and will be used throughout the global project.  And according to the Global Citizen website, all citizens who contribute will be credited.

Metamorphoses has the potential to break down our preconceptions of the voices of creativity, what different people around the world are thinking and who has the right to be heard,” said Lovett. “In my own life, I’ve experienced people trying to define me and put me in boxes and categories. Through collaboration we can show people how those lines can be blurred and are ultimately redundant.”

And I bolded that quote above because it sounds a lot like Kanye’s struggle, ya?  Maybe people will feel for him a little more knowing that Mr. Lovett feels the same.  Probably not, but a girl can dream!  Carry on.

“The artists involved in this project are some of the most genuine artists the world has to offer,” he continued. “Artists like Kanye West, and The National are doing something globally important that is touching people down to their DNA. And these masterfully creative people are going to be interpreting incredible submissions from people across the globe.”

This is dope for sure.  You have until March 31 to submit your lyrics!  Be a part of this global project here.

#InternationalWomensDay

“To all the ladies in the place with style and grace”
-Notorious B.I.G.

Happy #InternationalWomensDay to all of the women in my life.  Seriously, I’m so #blessed to be surrounded by such positive, hardworking, and inspiring ladies.

I’d love to introduce you to some of them :).

Karen Civil & YesJulz

4yr Karen CivilWoah.  Talk about boss ladies and motivational women.  I’ve been following these two on social media for quite some time now – Karen Civil longer (and have had the pleasure of meeting her a handful of times) and have learned so much from them.  Both making moves in their own ways, they have taught me about a strong work ethic, never giving up, following your passions, and asking for what you want.  Seriously, I go through most of my days thinking, “What would KC or Julz do?”  Karen is more private on social platforms but having heard her speak at women empowerment workshops and brunches, I really find myself connecting with her.  She felt there was a bigger world out there for her other than her small New Jersey hometown, so she got offered a job at Beats by Dre (no longer works there) and moved to LA.  I believe she’s also in her fourth or fifth year of living out here – I’m entering my fifth :).  And not only that, she truly built her brand from the ground up and is just so epic.

YesJulzAs for YesJulz, who I’ve been mentioning a lot lately, she is way more open about her life.  It’s nice to see a well-known figure share the ups and downs.  She is #NeverNotWorking and her goal of bridging the gap between cool and conscious is definitely something I vibe with.  Thank you both.

Drabik, Jilly, Jamie, & MeagO

Jilly and DrabikThese are my girls from Westminster College who helped make my four years there so special and wild.  While we were all very close in school, I truly feel we are closer now, and we are all over the place.  Drabik is about to start that married life in September, and I am honored to be part of her big day.  She’s also crushing it in the business world and her sarcastic ways give me life.  So flirty.  Jilly (get sillayyy) always brightens my day.  And I can’t wait to see her in September at Lindsay’s wedding and for another epic life happening ;).  MeagO is crushing it in NYC!  Seriously, she’s taking the PR world by storm, and I’m so proud you followed your dreams and moved to New York.  And it’s an extra bonus when she has to fly out to CA for work and adds on a few extra days to hang with me.  And Miss Jamie.  I had the honor of being in her wedding in October.  I’m inspired by your organizational skills and hard work ethic, and you are truly one of the most thoughtful people I know.  And so pumped for you that you got a new job.  Exciting stuff all around!LOL

Natalie, Natalie, & Natalie

NataliesThis is not a joke.  I grew up with three lovely ladies named Natalie.  I went to preschool and onward with one, 1st grade and onward with another, and then the other Nat came into the picture in the 3rd grade.  We all go way back, and it’s honestly like no time has passed at all when we see each other.  One is a very successful lawyer who is my boo/BFF, the other is a nurse saving lives in San Francisco, and the other is doing her thing as a mental health therapist in the Burgh.  I love these three so much.  They are the perfect mix of sarcasm, peppiness, and intelligence.
Hope to see yinz sooner than later!

Mom, Aunt Donna, Grandma, & Aunt Anne

These four women are my life!  Without going into essentially another blog post, these ladies have shaped me into who I am today.  100%.  From their hard work ethics, kind hearts, loving nature, to hosting a gathering to their talents in the kitchen and more, I can only hope to be a mixture of all four when I grow up!  No, I don’t consider myself completely grown up yet.  ❤  And PS – I need a group picture!!

My South Babes

Ithe girls know I’ve highlighted these ladies before in posts, but I can’t say it enough.  They have made and are making my time in California SO epic.  From inspiring me by their studious ways in grad school at USC to teaching me how to be dedicated to a project or passion to finding the good in everyone to making me laugh so hard I nearly cry to embracing one another for our weirdness (a requirement for this group) and more, I am so so so grateful for all of you.  And although now some of you are no longer in CA and one is about to head east, I can’t wait until we are ALL reunited again.

So happy International Women’s Day to all the fierce and fabulous ladies out there.

NEW (sort of): Travi$ Scott – ‘Uber Everywhere’

Okay, so I know Travis’ version of this song has been out for a little while now, but he Tweeted this morning the official SoundCloud link.  Previously, I was just listening to some upload of it.  And he states in the SoundCloud link that this is not a remix but his actual version – see below.

“birds in the trap sing mcknight
soon
P.s. this is not a remix
Madeintokyo original”

And a little before that Tweet, he blessed us with this news:

TravisScottTweet

I am a huge fan of Travi$, so I can only hope he goes on tour.  I’ll be seeing him with Rihanna in May, which will be epic, but I’m trying to go to a straight up Travi$ Scott – La Flame concert.

And if you’re unfamiliar with Madeintyo, I suggest you take a listen.  He’s behind the new club banger ‘Uber Eveywhere.’  Listen below.

And check out the following song, as well.  I’ll have to write a little piece on this new artist Shake.  We can thank YesJulz for her.

Happy Monday and #NationalCerealDay!

Video + Happy Friday

Below is a NSFW video, so please don’t watch at work or around your parents, re: language.

But this is basically how I’m feeling right now that it’s Friday.  Hype AF.  Tyler, The Creator and A$AP Rocky are really just doing their thing in the recording studio, as they rap over a remix to Kanye West’s ‘Freestyle 4’ from The Life of Pablo.

Tyler is rapping up a storm, while A$AP contributes some wild ad libs.

Check it out for yourself below, and while it is inappropriate language-wise, I’m pretty sure it will hype you up for the weekend, as well.

MUSIC:  Kendrick Lamar – ‘untitled unmastered’

UPDATE:  Well, that was quick!  Just as I clicked ‘publish,’ Kendrick tweeted about 15 minutes ago that untitled unmastered is available on iTunes.  YEEEE.  Check it, yinz!

So in addition to that 2 Chainz x Lil Wayne project I just told yinz about, King Kendrick Lamar may be up to something also.

That something being a what looks like new album called untitled unmastered, and earlier this evening Spotify posted the album under Kendrick’s name.  I just did a quick search on the streaming service though, and it’s not there.  Hmmm… them boys up to something.

However, I was able to grab a pic of the listing from Rap-Up.  Just so you have an idea of what I’m talking about.

image

But why does everyone think he’ll be dropping a project?  Let’s look at the FACTS below:

  • TDE’s CEO promised Lebron James the collection of ‘Untitled’ songs will be released.
  • Top Dawg also outlined on Instagram earlier this week a list of of upcoming projects, this potentially being one of them.
  • Producer Cardo also posted on Instagram with the caption ‘you’ve been warned’ and tagged two other producers, which makes us believe all are part of the project.
  • Tidal, Jay Z’s streaming service, also tweeted an image of the album cover.

All I can say is if K.Dot graces us with a new ALBUM, not just one song, but an album, and 2 Chainz and Lil Wayne give us a new project, I won’t be sleeping much tonight.  #blessed #worthit

Music:  2 Chainz x Lil Wayne – COLLEGROVE

UPDATE:  And here is the link to purchase/stream (if you have Apple Music) Collegrove.  Enjoy, yinz.  I am a happy person right now.

Okay, I am pretty pumped about this project, which is supposed to be dropping tonight at midnight.  I’ve been vibing with Tunechi and 2 Chainz for a while now, so this collab will be quite refreshing and hopefully pleasing to my ears.

Lil Wayne was truly one of the first rappers I really took a liking to and is one of the reasons why I’m so into hip-hop today.  I mean, have you heard ‘A Milli’?  Fire.

So while we patiently wait for the project to drop, let’s throw it back Thursday style with the two rappers below performing ‘Yuck’ at the MTV VMAs in 2012.  I was actually there to witness this – yassss.

And these two superstars aren’t the only ones dropping a project tonight… SUPPOSEDLY…

#NEVERNOTWORKING

I’d like to wish a happy birthday to the Snapchat queen, YesJulz.  Real name Julieanna Goddard, Julz has accomplished SO much by the age of 26.  Yes, she is only turning 26 today.  You may see me tweet to her/about her and I’ve definitely mentioned her in previous posts, but I’d like to give you a handful of reasons of why I look up to her so much and why you should follow her – especially if you rock that #NeverNotWorking mentality, which is what she lives by.

Here’s a little bio first to get yinz caught up to speed:

Real name:  Julieanna Goddard

What she goes by:  Julz

Social handles:  YesJulz – major key alert – follow her on Snap!

Age:  26

Where is she from?  Miami – and that’s where she currently lives

What does she do?  She runs her own entertainment, marketing, and event company – YesJulz Agency – with a mission of bridging the gap between cool and conscious.  The agency is comprised of females only.  She’s also known as the Director of Vibes and known for throwing epic ragers that bring the people together.

Life motto:  #NeverNotWorking

I probably started following Julz on social media about a year ago, and I look forward to watching her Snaps each night before I go to bed.  As I mentioned earlier about the parties she throws, she started a series in January called 1AM Vibes.  Well, she hosted her first one in Los Angeles, whch happened to be the start of my birthday weekend.  So you know I had to go.  I rallied up two girlfriends, we Ubered to downtown LA, and raged all night in a warehouse with Julz and major special guest Wiz Khalifa.

From her adventures with girlfriends to business meetings to inside recording studios to offering advice and more, she is someone I look up to both professionally and personally.  You truly see all the ups and downs in her life, which a lot of people are afraid to show – especially the down moments.  While she does only employ women, she is a positive influence for both guys and (cozy) gals alike.

She’s all about hard work, supporting one another, and just living life.  I dig it.  And what’s even cooler?  She went on a nationwide search to find people to be part of her Social Media Street Team, or should I say ARMY.  Well, I obviously applied, and got chosen to be part of it!  There are lots of others involved with this, but I think it’s pretty cool that she wants her followers to be part of her YesJulz team and YesJulz Agency.  I’m really grateful for this opportunity and to help spread the positive vibes that Julz is about.

So instead of me continuing to ramble, I suggest you go follow her – Twitter, Instagram, and Snapchat.  Honestly.  You won’t be disappointed.  And she is the plug to lots of epic music and up-and-coming artists.  Trust me.  YesJulz will have you saying YesGoalz.

Happy birthday, Julz!
